The app also lets you use the "spot" cleaning on demand function where you can choose a dirty area on your floor map and the robot will automatically make its way over that area using multiple swipes of its cleaning pad. It really does a good job of picking up everything from loose dog hair tumbleweeds to tiny pieces of paper that were cut and scattered from a recent project.

When the Matrix completes its cleaning task it will return to its dock and empty itself into the included bin. This is a pretty neat feature since it reduces the amount of hand-on maintenance you have to perform.

This robot's LIDAR mapping sensor is located right on top. This could make it difficult to reach under furniture with low levels like tables and sofas. If you're not worried about being a bit higher than other models it's an excellent option. Be aware that this one does not come with an HEPA air filter, as do some other models on this list.

The RV2502AE is a great mid-range robot cleaner that checks all of the boxes. It's easy to use and produces precise home maps and has a bagless base that self-empties. It's also cheaper to run than other robot vacuums.

It has a lot of power. It makes use of its side brushes to push carpet fibers and hair into the brushroll. This avoids the accumulation of dirt and clogging of the brushroll that is seen on other robotic vacuums, and makes this model more efficient in removing pet hair.

Apart from its suction-boosting and self-emptying base, this robot features Matrix Clean Navigation for a thorough cleaning, Precision Home Mapping for objects to avoid, a high-efficiency HEPA filter that catches 99 percent of odors, dust mites, and allergens and two power modes for different floor types and a remote control that grants you access to all its functions. It's also compatible with voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to allow you to start a cleaning job without touching the robot.

It's a great option for most homes but its navigation abilities may be problematic for some. In contrast to other bump bots that can avoid stairs, this one had difficulty with them. It utilized LiDAR sensors as well as infrared to map my house, but kept mistaking the cat condo as a staircase and asked me if I wanted to move it. It also had a shorter running time than advertised, which was only 180 minutes.

Self-Empty Base

Some robots - like this one - have self-emptying bases that vacuum or dump the debris from the onboard dust bin into an external dirt bin for easier maintenance. They're a nice convenience but they can be a bit noisy and messy, and they typically require the use of special disposal bags.

This Shark model is bundled with a HEPA-filtered bagless cutting-edge vacuums base, and has a remarkablely large capacity. It can hold debris for up to 60 days and doesn't need to be emptied daily like other models. There's also a hefty dose of amazing Shark suction that can tackle the most difficult of messes. The only issue is that the docking station's vacuum system that is used to clean the onboard dust bin is surprisingly loud.

When the robot is plugged in and charging it, it will emit a beep and a green light on its top will blink to indicate that it's ready to start cleaning. If the battery of the robot is low it will dock to its base until it's recharged. It's important that the dock or Self-Empty Base is located in a position that can't be obstructed by furniture or other objects and is clear of any obstructions in the area in front of it.

While it's somewhat more expensive than other mid-range robotic mops that we've tested, it feels solid and performs better on bare floors as well as a longer battery life, less maintenance requirements, and a greater variety of automation features that include virtual boundary markers. The iRobot Roomba i7, however, is still our recommended option because it is more robust and more refined, charges faster and is able to be tangled with rug tassels much less frequently and has a larger capacity for its battery.

Easy Setup

The Shark AI Ultra has a simple to use schedule that only requires a few inputs. You can choose the date and time of sunrise and sunset. You can also select the duration of the ramp times (increasing brightness or decreasing brightness) and whether to turn on the lights at night.
