1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other iRobots with premium features (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like cords and furniture leg. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. Also, it doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used when you're at work or school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time to provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot vacuum cleaner reviews that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, and navigates more effectively than some of its premium rivals. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. A stairway mode is useful if you have a lot furniture. Also, a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would think from its price. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, however it is more likely to get stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuum cleaner vacuums that we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
