The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with a wet one in just a few seconds.

This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the rivals. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance.
