World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the sheer number of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item upgrader mod.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell equipment, players can compare the item level. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it is capable of causing. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the level of the item.

On PC, you can check the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.

This is not the only factor that influences the level of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.

The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.

Upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage, special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by naming them.

Currently, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it is an exclusive item or a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to enhance. Like base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items and the properties that are created by loot and the intensity of these properties. However, it does not directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game, and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs than in later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any skill that causes damage by five percent. These items are available from the shop, or they can be crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.

The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an initial success rate of 25%, and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects could be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the item upgrader (written by Sdhuifa) CORE client config.
