Three Wheeled Buggies

If you're seeking a buggy to run around in or a nifty stroller to tackle the neighborhood, three-wheeled buggies are great for mobility. Their compact design makes them easy to maneuver even in tight places.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram that has air-filled tyres and look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. However, they are prone to punctures, so be prepared with a repair kit.

Sturdy frame

Recent figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggie - a symbol of the noughties of more money than sanity is on the verge of disappearing. They have been replaced by four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, yet still look elegant and easy to push.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn as well as a 3 wheel infant stroller year old and found it coped well with grass, cobbles, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath wrote "it feels sturdy to push and very solid when traversing difficult terrain. The tyres, which are inflatable and need to be pumped up occasionally, have built-in suspension. It was extremely comfortable for my children.

Another thing to think about is the size of the seat and shape. You want the seat to be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies will have a full lie-flat option while others will only allow a parent facing one.

Larger wheels give your buggy more stability while driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. Additionally, they make it easier to manoeuvre the buggy through tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have the front wheels that swivel to assist you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This is especially useful when you bump against the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which means they can be used on many different terrains and are far more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They're also lighter. However, they're susceptible to punctures, so you'll need an repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.

Easy to maneuver

One of the primary benefits of a three-wheel buggy is that it's much more maneuverable particularly with a child in the back. The way they are built ensures that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are really easy to maneuver which makes them perfect for difficult terrains like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheel reversible stroller wheeler with her newborn and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the ground, with the swivel front wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed with how well it dealt with the kerbs, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. I found it to be extremely steady when I was driving downhill or over uneven terrain."

The only downside of this great maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean it has to struggle in tight spaces - something to consider especially if you live in a metropolitan area. If this is a concern then a 4-wheeler might be a better choice for you.
