Some of the businesses I owned were total financial disasters. Others were very lucrative. Many of them allowed me to make a decent income. I didn't create one in my garage. Instead, it became an Apple Computer. All of my businesses were small. When I felt that the business was getting too big, I either sold it off or cut back. I wanted to learn everything about the operation. Even if I did not possess the skills to do every job myself, I wanted to be able to at least understand what was needed to succeed in performing that particular job in my shop.

Another myth is that small businesses will grow by hiring more employees. While this may be true for some businesses, such as Microsoft, it is not true for most. Growth is measured in the addition of one or two employees and not hundreds. I will only hire so many workers if I open a 24-hour, 365-day convenience store. Does that mean I have increased the number people working, even if I buy a new store a mile away? The answer is probably no. Because if I had not opened that convenience store, someone else would. It is sometimes a zero sum equation, especially for small businesses.

To give an example, 50% are among the top 20 Danish companies in the Google search results. 1 search result with their corporate domain.dk. Their.com address usually ranks just below. This does not mean that.dk is better than.com in Danish Google. However, it shows that the local domain is relevant in the ranking.
