Private ADHD Titration

There is a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing issues and an increased demand in the world.

Our service provides private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A comprehensive assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes medical history and an assessment using the typical ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your assessment You will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your particular situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which may be scheduled in person, via video link or by phone). Your clinician will explain the different options available for you to take medication and, if you choose to begin taking medication, we will recommend titrating dosage to ensure the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This is a process which may take several weeks, and involves adjusting your child's medication slowly until the right balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to adjust several times before finding the best one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is crucial that parents take part in the titration process and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so that they can inform doctors whether the medication is helping or causing adverse reactions.

If you decide to return to NHS care the medication you take will be issued with a prescription from a private pharmacy that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication, which includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed you will be able to schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist, as appropriate. The appointment usually takes place through a video call using zoom, although in certain cases it is possible to schedule an audio only consultation (again at an extra cost).

At this point, we will discuss any treatment options and decide on a custom-made ADHD medication titration program. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage and an examination of any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost for these titration consultations is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history and the effects of your ADHD symptoms on your life, and any relationship problems or mental health issues that you might be experiencing. This is because ADHD can be an inheritable condition, and it is essential to look into any family history that might suggest that you are at risk of developing the disorder.

During this assessment it is essential that you are truthful and honest with the clinician in the sense that they will be using the information you provide to determine if you have the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This can be done within the first few days of your diagnosis if are eager to begin treatment immediately, or within two weeks if prefer to take time to think about the implications of your diagnosis and the alternatives that are available to you.

If you're not sure what your preference is it is recommended that you talk to your GP prior to scheduling your private appointment as certain providers have different policies about whether they require a GP referral letter or not. Check if your GP accepts a Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a prescription medication.

Medication
