The new project, dubbed the Space Key - is a work of art that was made by a collaboration with an unknown artist. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that is obtained by scanning the use of a QR code. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of a carbon composite material that Lamborghini, in the course of a research project in 2019, sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was then transformed into an original artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical object is inscribed with an NFT serial number, which is tied to the digital artwork via a QR code that is located on the back.

NFTs, for those not familiar are unique identifiers that are stored on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and linked to an digital asset like a photograph video, song, or other recording. This allows owners to ensure authenticity and traceability of tokens via the internet.

The digital artwork

After months of posts on social media that hint at it, luxury automobile manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Petron Key To Lamborghini is a collection of five physical objects that will unlock a special digital art by a yet to be identified artist. The collectors' piece was created in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to only five units. It will be auctioned shortly.

Each Space Key contains a block composed of a carbon-fire composite material. It was sent to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research project. After returning to Earth it was imprinted with a QR code, which connects it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a separate moment that occurs seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of the five images was captured by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used an inflatable camera fitted with a lens to capture individual images, which were then assembled into the final photograph. The result is an amazing out of the world photo that captures the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned in the near future, however there's no precise date or place yet.

The auction

Each NFT will be auctioned off separately and the winner will receive an original digital art work by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its flight through space.
